The project concerns the renovation - change of use of an existing neoclassical building in Chania city center. Its new use as a city hotel promotes the creation of fully equipped apartments, which was also the main element of our operation. The facade of the building is facing the main street and the other two on urban open spaces.

The exterior shell of the building was returned to its original state, after damage to the masonry was repaired and maintained. Internally on the ground floor and first floor, careful modifications were made to the original floor plan in order to minimally affect the "static balance" of the building. Not having significant movements - modifications of existing stone structures but by installing the required sound insulation, we created seven rooms with new bathrooms from plasterboards . The masonry in the new bathrooms stops at the windows of the building and does not touch the existing wooden ceiling, which was preserved and remained as it is. Thus, the user has a sense of the size of the room and does not feel cramped in a small room with a large height. Of the seven rooms, one on the ground floor is double and has access to an enclosed deck with a private jacuzzi. Upstairs, one is larger in size and has access to a balcony and one again has access to a private deck with a jacuzzi.
In the basement, a spa area was created consisting of a sauna, a massage area, showers and a heated pool.
It was chosen in each room to expose stonework on at least one wall and to illuminate it. The materials chosen, apart from the partial exposure of the stone, are the white mortar, the wooden oak floor, the solid oak furniture, and the cement mortar inside the bathrooms. The interior doors of the rooms are hidden and have the material of the wall (cement mortar and white mortar). The external doors of the rooms as well as the external frames of the building were replaced with new ones, in the same dimensions and with the same design as the old ones, making reference to the memory of the building.
The combination of stone, mortar and wood, and their ambient warm lighting, as well as the use of greenery in every space, inside and outside the rooms as well as on the terraces, private and shared, achieve a sense of calmness and relaxation for the user. The feeling of luxury is completed by the indoor heated swimming pool in the basement which at the same time lends uniqueness to the concept, an integral part of every project we design.
