"More and more, I believe that there are no limits to innovation in architecture. Bold ideas, cutting-edge materials, efficient space utilization, energy efficiency, and the ideal environment come together to shape a home that is both functional and enhances daily life. From generating fresh perspectives to discovering practical solutions for everyday living, Zeropixel Architects consistently bring innovative designs to life. Their goal is to surpass expectations, creating unique homes tailored to the individuality of each client, with a distinct character for every project."

Meet Zeropixel and their General Director, Dimitris Koudounakis.

What led to the creation of the company:

We started the company just like everyone else does, as each of us was working on different things. We combined our efforts, and when we realized that we work well together, we decided to formalize the collaboration. Our goal was to build a strong and organized office that would bring projects forward from the first idea to construction. At the same time, we wanted a structure that would operate efficiently both as a design firm and as a management team. Each of us in the office specializes in different areas, but we always work together on every project.Everyone has their own role in the final outcome. All pieces must operate together smoothly without gaps. That is what led to the name Zeropixel, and this is the company's core philosophy.

Where does the name "Zeropixel" come from:

Zeropixel Architects is a combination of "zero" and "pixel." "Zero" symbolizes something new, clean, and unblemished, while "pixel" refers to the smallest unit of digital imagery. This reflects our belief that design, technology, and detail are fundamental parts of architecture. Each member of the team plays a vital role in the process, and the sum of all parts creates a seamless result.

Describe the main areas of activity and Zeropixel’s philosophy:

Our team consists of architects, engineers, and designers with significant experience in the field. We handle the entire design and construction process from the initial concept to final delivery. We approach each project with responsibility and aim for excellence in both design and construction. We’ve worked on a wide range of projects from residential to commercial, both in Greece and abroad. Our work always balances creativity with functionality, aiming to meet the client's needs while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design.

What is your architectural approach:

Our architectural approach is based on simple and clean lines, always paying close attention to detail. We often incorporate advanced technology and systems into our designs, making sure that functionality and aesthetics complement each other. Our focus is to create spaces that serve their purpose and are built to last. We place great emphasis on the sustainability and environmental impact of our designs, utilizing bioclimatic elements and modern materials. We aim to create buildings that are efficient and offer a unique experience to the user. Every space we design seeks to adapt to the needs of the user while reflecting the identity of the place and the purpose it serves.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

We draw inspiration from the everyday needs of people and the urban landscape that surrounds us. We try to design spaces that provide a balance between the old and the new. We use materials and technologies that improve the quality of life while respecting the environment. Every project is an opportunity to create something new and unique that not only fits but also enhances the space it occupies. For us, the inspiration comes from a need to solve problems, create opportunities, and enhance the experience of each user, creating spaces where people feel comfortable and empowered.

What challenges do you face in your projects?

The biggest challenge we face is navigating the market, especially during difficult economic times. In Greece, it's challenging to convince clients of the value of good design, especially when they prioritize cost-cutting. This often requires us to find a balance between high-quality design and construction and remaining within a limited budget. Beyond this, one of the most significant challenges is staying innovative and keeping our work fresh, especially in a constantly evolving field. However, it's this challenge that pushes us to create better work, always aiming for projects that stand out.

What is your contribution to promoting the role of architecture in Greece?

We believe that architecture, both as a concept and as an applied practice, has not yet gained the recognition it deserves in Greece. Although the field has evolved, there is still a lack of understanding and appreciation for good design, especially when it comes to functional and aesthetic considerations. We try to showcase the value of architecture by delivering high-quality projects that highlight the importance of design in improving quality of life. Our goal is to raise awareness of how thoughtful architecture can enhance daily experiences and create meaningful spaces.

At the competitive level, how would you describe your industry?

When we started our firm, as far as we know, there weren’t many companies operating in the same way we do. As more companies have entered the field, we’ve learned to differentiate ourselves through our reliability and our innovative designs. We've found that offering custom solutions and staying flexible with each project has helped us maintain a competitive edge. We've also made sure to work closely with our clients, often collaborating with them to deliver the best result, even if that means adjusting our approach or working on new design challenges. While competition has grown, we believe that our commitment to quality sets us apart.

How important is building trust with a potential client?

Building trust is essential at every stage of a project. From the initial meetings with clients to discussing design concepts and finalizing details, trust allows for better communication and ensures that the client feels confident in our abilities. We work to create a relationship based on transparency, where the client is always informed and involved. This mutual trust leads to smoother project execution and greater client satisfaction. It's a key element that helps us form lasting relationships with our clients and build our reputation.

After approaching things from our perspective, do you believe the market is much more flexible?

Yes, in fact. I immediately felt that we understand our clients well and know how to communicate and carry out our work. We try to align our values with those of the people we work with, especially homeowners who invest a great deal of emotion into their property. This understanding and respect make the process smoother, and the support system we provide through programs like “home support” has been especially helpful for them.

You have posted three videos of your company’s construction projects online. What feedback have you received from viewers?

We’ve had excellent feedback! Especially for the first video, which focuses on the construction process. Viewers have been really interested in seeing behind-the-scenes details, and they enjoy learning about the design stages. The second video, which features the artistic aspect of the finished projects, has also been appreciated for showing the atmosphere we aim to create. In the final video, which discusses the human connection to architecture, viewers seem to have a deeper emotional response. It’s very positive, and it's encouraging to see how engaged people have been.

Have you designed your own home?

I have designed my own mobile home! And I built it myself. As someone who loves nature, I don’t like staying in one place. Whether in one location or in general. I love traveling around the world and working remotely, and when I’m in this unique place, Crete, staying in my motorhome and designing there gives me unparalleled inspiration. Not to mention that designing my own home is the most challenging project of my career. When I design a home, I analyze the client, the family it’s intended for, and I set the limitations of what they want. I believe the most difficult thing for a person to achieve is to analyze themselves and define what they truly want.

What do you do in your free time, do you have any hobbies?

I really enjoy being in nature with my dog and traveling. I travel a lot, both within and outside Greece, and I’m particularly fond of kitesurfing and fishing. In addition, I run frequently, swim, and work out regularly, while I also surf and practice yoga. Lately, I've been into autonomous diving and downhill skiing. The place we live in is ideal for such kinds of activities.
